What makes your frail care facility different from a standard retirement home?
We are a home, not an institution, and our residents are family, not patients.
What types of care do you provide?
Respite care, frail care, assisted living.
Is nursing care available 24/7?
Nursing care is available 24/7. We have night sisters and night-time carers.
How are medical needs and medications managed?
Our house doctors and sisters in charge manage everything to do with medical care. Medication comes blister-packed from our registered pharmacy and is handled by the head sister in charge.
Is your facility registered with the Department of Social Development or any healthcare authorities?
Yes.
How is the care team qualified and trained?
Our team consists of a variety of SANC-registered nurses and home care providers. All are trained in first aid and CPR. We also provide constant in-house training.
What happens in the case of a medical emergency?
Our doctors will advise as necessary.
Do you offer specialised care for dementia or Alzheimer’s?
Yes, we do. Please be in touch for more information on this. We offer individualised care as well as family therapy for those experiencing family members living with this condition.
What is included in the monthly cost?
24-hour nursing care and security, all meals, laundry, and housekeeping.
Are rooms private, and can they be personalised?
All rooms are private with en suite bathrooms.
We do have two shared facilities should that interest some residents.
Can residents bring their own furniture or belongings?
Yes, we encourage residents and/or their families to bring their own furniture. This will provide a sense of comfort, familiarity, and the feeling of home as the resident knows it.
What kind of meals are served, and can dietary needs be accommodated?
We cater to all dietary requirements. Breakfast is an assortment of fresh fruits, yoghurt, cereal, and a hot breakfast. Lunch and dinner change seasonally, from fresh salads and proteins during summer to hot soups and stews in winter. We also offer a variety of freshly baked items like scones and muffins, or cheese and biscuits for tea time.
What is the staff-to-resident ratio during the day and night?
Depending on the level of care required, some residents have one-on-one care, or two carers in some cases, and one carer for two residents in other instances. Each resident is individually assessed and provided with what they require.
Are visitors allowed, and what are the visiting hours?
We have an open-door policy and visitors are welcome anytime except during meal times.
Are GP visits or specialist consultations arranged on-site?
Yes, everyone comes to our home.
Can residents keep their current doctor or healthcare provider?
Yes.
How do you keep residents safe and secure?
We have 24-hour security with a direct line to ADT if needed.
Is there support for families during end-of-life care?
Absolutely. We will handle all end-of-life care and administration.
Are social activities and events offered regularly?
Yes. It is the resident’s choice if they would like to participate or not – we do not enforce participation.
Are religious or spiritual services available?
Residents are welcome to partake in that privately. We are a non-denominational home.
Can couples stay together in the residence?
This can be discussed.

Can residents go on outings or attend external appointments?

How are families kept informed about their loved one’s wellbeing?
Through WhatsApp communication, and visiting is encouraged.
